Modern windows come standard with plenty of additional features that make them more efficient and secure than ever. As you probably know, crank windows are more efficient than sliders

Two such features are multi-point locks and compression seals on casement and awning windows. And these two features work closely together to provide high performance and comfort.

Multi-Point Locks

Multi-point locks serve three main functions and are thus far more superior than standard window locks. Firstly, they lock the casement window in multiple places. This means your window can’t be broken into through just one lock, making it much more secure. Secondly, when the lock pulls the sash toward the frame, it does so evenly. This doesn’t overtighten the sash and spreads the stress evenly. Thus, the sash doesn’t deform or warp and ultimately performs to its full potential. And thirdly, because the window is pulled in evenly from all sides, this ensures the compression seal is engaged properly and acts as a barrier to air leaks and drafts.

Multi-point locks make crank windows virtually impossible to break into. Compression seals create an efficient unit preventing leaks and drafts.

Compression Seals

Compression seals are far more superior than the weatherstripping traditionally used in operable windows. The soft seal literally compresses and fills in space between moving components. This makes operable windows much more efficient as it minimizes the air escaping from the room.

By their design, all operable windows are much less energy efficient than fixed ones. Multi-point locks and compression seals are a must on casements and awnings to make them as efficient as possible.
